چکیده

The occarrence and induction of immediate-type airway responsiveness to standadzed ascaris antigen (SAA) was studied in dogs. Two of nine dogs with significant cotane o w reactivity to SAA had respiratory responses on initial n e r d challenge. Of the remaining seven dogs, six d e veloped respiratory responses to SAA within three a e d exposare& Tbe respiratory responsiveness is of long d m tion, persisting at least four months, when the animals are expo& biweekIy. R m c antibody against AA can be detected in the respiratory secretions of dogs sensttive

Airway provocation test with ragweed pollen extract in Chinese asthmatics.

As ragweed becomes widespread over China, ragweed pollenosis tends to be more frequent. Incidence of ragweed pollenosis is about 1.04% in Qingdao district. To elucidate ragweed as an allergen in the development of bronchial asthma, ragweed pollen extract inhalation airway provocation tests (APT) were studied in 55 patients with ragweed pollenosis. A single dosage of 9,000 PNU ragweed pollen ext...

New method for evaluating bronchomotor and bronchosecretory activities: Effects of prostaglandins and antigen.

We devised a new method for measuring responses of canine airway musculature, bronchosecretion and bronchial vasculature simultaneously, in situ, and investigated the effects of prostaglandins F2alpha and E2 and antigen-antibody reaction by using this model. The right bronchial artery was perfused with blood at a constant flow under artificial respiration. Airway musculature response was measur...

Myogenic and neurogenic mechanisms and arachidonate metabolites in bronchial muscle response to allergen.

We investigated allergen-induced airway hyperresponsiveness (AH) in bronchial tissues obtained from dogs that inhaled Ascaris suum leading to AH (RESP) in vivo or that exhibited no change (NON-RESP) as well as from dogs that inhaled saline (SHAM). RESP tissues were not hyperresponsive to KCl or to carbachol, whereas contractions to electrical field stimulation (EFS) were reduced. This reduction...

Selectin blockade prevents antigen-induced late bronchial responses and airway hyperresponsiveness in allergic sheep.

Antigen challenge can elicit an allergic inflammatory response in the airways that involves eosinophils, basophils, and neutrophils and that is expressed physiologically as a late airway response (LAR) and airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). Although previous studies have suggested that E-selectin participates in these allergic airway responses, there is little information concerning the role of ...

Efficacy of IL-13 neutralization in a sheep model of experimental asthma.

IL-13 contributes to airway hyperresponsiveness, mucus secretion, inflammation, and fibrosis, suggesting that it plays a central role in asthma pathogenesis. Neutralization of IL-13 with sIL-13Ralpha2-Fc (sIL-13R) reduces allergen-induced airway responses in rodent models of respiratory disease, but its efficacy in a large animal model has not been previously reported. In this study, we determi...
